Mud Lake (also known as French: lac Mud in French) is a small lake located in Greater Madawaska, Renfrew County, in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It is an important part of the Saint Lawrence River drainage basin, which means all the water from this lake eventually flows into the Saint Lawrence River. Mud Lake is also the starting point, or source, of a stream called Little Black Donald Creek.

Where the Water Goes

Mud Lake receives water from two smaller streams. These streams flow into the lake from the north and the east. The main way water leaves Mud Lake is through Little Black Donald Creek. This creek flows out from the south side of the lake.

Journey to the Ocean

The water from Mud Lake has a long journey ahead! After leaving Mud Lake, Little Black Donald Creek flows into Black Donald Lake. From there, the water continues into the Madawaska River. The Madawaska River then joins the much larger Ottawa River. Finally, the Ottawa River flows into the mighty Saint Lawrence River, which eventually reaches the Atlantic Ocean. So, a drop of water from Mud Lake could travel all the way to the sea!
