The Story of Mulgarrie
Before it was called Mulgarrie, this area had other names. People knew it as Hayes Find or Hit and Miss. These names often came from the early gold prospectors who discovered minerals there. Reports about the area started appearing in the 1890s.
How Mulgarrie Became a Town
In 1896, a surveyor named Beasley visited the area. He saw its potential and suggested that a proper townsite was needed. Later that same year, land lots were measured and mapped out. This was an important step in creating a new town.
Official Town Status
Mulgarrie officially became a townsite in 1897. This means the government formally recognized it as a place where people could live and build. Many towns in Western Australia's Goldfields region grew quickly during the gold rush era. However, when the gold ran out, many of these towns became ghost towns, just like Mulgarrie.
