Mundare is a small town located in central Alberta, Canada. It's about 70 kilometers (43 miles) east of Edmonton, a major city. You can find Mundare where Highway 15 and Highway 855 meet. It's also just 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) north of the Yellowhead Highway. The Canadian National Railway tracks also pass through the town.
Southwest of Mundare, you'll find Beaverhill Lake. If you travel about 30 kilometers (19 miles) west, you can visit Elk Island National Park, a great place for nature lovers.

History of Mundare

Mundare got its name from William Mundare, who was a railway station agent. The town has been around for a long time! In July 2007, Mundare celebrated its 100th birthday with a big three-day party.

In 2021, about 792 people lived in the Town of Mundare. These residents lived in 348 homes. This number was a little less than the 852 people who lived there in 2016.
The town covers a land area of about 4.12 square kilometers (1.59 square miles).

Basilian Fathers' Museum
One cool spot is The Basilian Fathers' Museum. This museum shares the story of Ukrainian settlers and the Basilian Fathers' work in this part of Alberta. It has a special collection of old religious books from Ukraine, some from the 16th and 17th centuries.
The museum is located off Highway 855, which runs along the east side of town. Right across from the museum, you'll find a beautiful garden and shrine called the "Golgotha of Mundare." The Basilian Fathers built this peaceful spot in 1934.
World's Largest Garlic Sausage
Mundare is also famous for being home to the world's largest garlic sausage! This giant sausage, also known as kielbasa or kovbasa, is a huge statue. It cost about $120,000 to build and put up. It's a fun landmark to see!
