Murputja is a small Aboriginal community. It is located in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in South Australia. This area is home to the Anangu people, who are the traditional owners of the land.

Police Presence

Police officers help keep the community safe. In 2007, four police officers from South Australia Police were based in Murputja. They patrolled the local area. At that time, there was a simple shed that worked as a police station. New homes were also built for the officers.

By 2018, the APY Lands had several police stations. These stations were in places like Amata, Ernabella, Mimili, Murputja, Umuwa, and Marla. Special police teams, including investigators, are based at Umuwa. They provide extra support to the communities.

Time Zone

Murputja and the rest of the APY Lands follow a different time rule. Unlike most of South Australia, they do not use daylight saving. This means their clocks do not change in summer.

The time zone they use all year is Australian Central Standard Time (UTC+9:30). This is the same time as Darwin in the Northern Territory. It is different from Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. This helps keep things simple because they are close to the Northern Territory border.
