My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – Friendship Games, also called Friendship Games, is an animated musical sports movie from 2015. It was made in Canada and the United States. This film is a sequel to My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – Rainbow Rocks (2014). Josh Haber wrote the story, and Ishi Rudell directed it.
The movie was made by DHX Media and Hasbro Studios. It is part of the Equestria Girls toy and media world. This world is a spin-off from the popular My Little Pony series. Like the other Equestria Girls movies, this film shows the main characters from My Little Pony as human teenagers. They go to a high school called Canterlot High. She is trying to find out about the magic happening at Canterlot High.
A fourth Equestria Girls movie, Legend of Everfree, came out on Netflix in 2016.

Preparing for the Big Competition
The students at Canterlot High School are getting ready for the Friendship Games. This is a sports and academic competition that happens every four years. Canterlot High's team, the Wondercolts, will face the Shadowbolts from Crystal Prep Academy. The Shadowbolts have never lost!
Sunset Shimmer has noticed something strange. Her friends sometimes "pony up" during musical performances. This means they grow pony-like ears, tails, and wings. When Rainbow Dash transforms during a pep rally, Sunset gets worried. She tries to contact Twilight from Equestria for help, but gets no answer.
Twilight Sparkle's Investigation
Meanwhile, a student from Crystal Prep Academy is also busy. This is Twilight Sparkle, the human version. She is studying the magic around Canterlot High. Twilight builds a special locket-like device. It can find and hold magic. She hopes this will help her get into a special study program.
However, Principal Cinch, the head of Crystal Prep, has other plans. She threatens Twilight to make her join the Friendship Games. Principal Cinch wants Crystal Prep to keep its perfect winning record.
Magic Goes Wild
When Twilight arrives at Canterlot High, her device finds Sunset and her friends' magic. As she gets closer, the device accidentally takes away Rarity's magic. This happens when Rarity "ponies up" while making uniforms. Sunset first thinks this Twilight is her pony friend. But she quickly realizes her mistake.
Crystal Prep's Twilight follows Sunset to the portal to Equestria. The device then absorbs the portal's magic and closes it! The device also affects Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy. This happens when they try to befriend Twilight. It creates rips in space that lead to Equestria. Twilight's dog, Spike, even starts to talk!
The Games Continue
Twilight wins the academic part of the games. Then, the games move to a "tricross relay." This race includes archery, speed skating, and motocross. Applejack transforms after giving Twilight advice in the race. This causes the device to steal Applejack's magic. It also creates a rip that brings out scary plants.
Rainbow Dash "ponies up" to save the other racers. She then loses her own magic. Canterlot High wins the event. But Principal Cinch accuses them of cheating because of their magic.
The Final Showdown
Before the last event, Principal Cinch and the Shadowbolts pressure Twilight. They want her to release the magic from her device to use against the Wondercolts. But the magic makes Twilight change into a winged monster instead! She destroys the statue portal and opens more rips. These rips threaten to destroy their world.
The Wondercolts and Shadowbolts work together to save their classmates. Sunset notices her friends' magical glow. She realizes their magic appears when they show traits like the Elements of Harmony. Sunset gathers their magic with the device. She then turns into an angelic form, like Princess Celestia. She closes the rips and turns Twilight back to normal.
Principal Cinch is still upset. She threatens to tell the school board about the magic. But when she is told no one would believe her, she agrees to a tie. Both teams celebrate! Twilight decides she is happier at Canterlot High. She transfers there, and Sunset and the other students welcome her as a new friend.
A Surprise Visitor
In a short scene before the credits, the original Twilight from Equestria comes out of the portal. Her friends' human versions are gathered around it. She says sorry for being gone. She explains she just escaped a time travel loop. She is very surprised to see her human self there!
