My Little Pony: The Movie is an animated musical fantasy film from 1986. It is based on the popular Hasbro toyline called My Little Pony. The movie first came out in theaters on June 6, 1986.

Famous actors like Danny DeVito, Madeline Kahn, Cloris Leachman, Rhea Perlman, and Tony Randall lent their voices to the characters. The film was made by Sunbow Productions and Marvel Productions. Later, a TV series continued the adventures. One special ten-part episode from that series, The End of Flutter Valley, was a follow-up to this movie.

The Story of My Little Pony: The Movie

The movie begins at Dream Castle, where the ponies live happily. They play in flowery meadows with their animal friends. Baby Lickety-Split practices a new dance, and Spike, a baby dragon, plays the piano for her.

The Wicked Witch Hydia's Plan

Far away, at the Volcano of Gloom, a mean witch named Hydia is planning to ruin the ponies' fun. Her two daughters, Reeka and Draggle, are not very good at being wicked. Hydia sends them to spoil the ponies' festival.

During a dance show by the baby ponies, Baby Lickety-Split tries her own dance. This messes up the whole performance. Everyone scolds her, so she runs away. Spike follows her. They accidentally fall down a waterfall and get stuck in a valley.

Meanwhile, Reeka and Draggle try to flood the festival area. But the Sea Ponies help, and the witches' plan fails.

The Smooze and the Search for Lickety-Split

The ponies send out a group to find Baby Lickety-Split and Spike. Hydia decides to create something worse: the Smooze. This is an unstoppable purple goo that destroys everything in its path. It also makes anyone it touches grumpy and sad.

Her daughters collect ingredients for the Smooze. They are too scared to get one ingredient called "flume." Hydia releases the Smooze, and it heads toward Dream Castle. Spike and Baby Lickety-Split get trapped inside a mountain. The ponies have to leave their home as the castle is covered by the Smooze.

The search party keeps looking for Lickety-Split before the Smooze reaches them. Two Pegasus ponies, Wind Whistler and North Star, fly to the human world. They bring Megan, who has a special Rainbow locket. Megan's younger siblings, Danny and Molly, come along too.

Megan uses the Rainbow to stop the Smooze, but it gets swallowed up. The ponies feel sad, but Megan tells them there's always another rainbow. Hydia gets angry when she finds out the Smooze was missing the "flume." She sends her daughters to get it from a scary plant monster. The sisters finally get some flume, and Hydia adds it to the Smooze, making it active again.

Finding Help and New Friends

Megan and two ponies visit the Moochick. He gives them a new home called Paradise Estate. He also gives them a map to find the Flutter Ponies, who might be able to stop the Smooze. A group led by Megan sets off to find Flutter Valley.

Meanwhile, Spike and Baby Lickety-Split meet five friendly but unusual creatures called Grundles. Their home, Grundleland, was also covered by the Smooze in the past.

On their journey, Megan almost gets caught by the Smooze in a field of giant sunflowers. Hydia sends her pet, Ahgg, after the ponies. Spike, Baby Lickety-Split, and the Grundles nearly fall victim to the Smooze. Spike's tail gets covered, but they escape by floating down a river on a log.

They find a well, and Baby Lickety-Split hears echoes. She rescues Morning Glory, a Flutter Pony who fell into the well. Morning Glory learns about the Smooze and promises to lead them to Flutter Valley.

The Final Battle Against the Smooze

The group searching for the Flutter Ponies goes through Shadow Forest. Sentient trees attack them by firing sharp branches. After escaping the forest, they find their way to Flutter Valley blocked by Ahgg, a giant spider, and its web. Megan is in danger again but is saved by Wind Whistler.

They finally reach Flutter Valley and meet Queen Rosedust. At first, she doesn't want to help. But then Baby Lickety-Split arrives safely with Spike, the Grundles, and Morning Glory. Morning Glory begs her queen to help their "cousins." Queen Rosedust finally agrees to help defeat the Smooze.

The other ponies and forest animals are about to be covered by the Smooze. The witches watch from their ship. The Flutter Ponies arrive and save everyone! They use their magical wind, Utter Flutter, to destroy the Smooze. They also uncover the lost rainbow and send the witches back into the volcano.

The Grundles are given the ruins of Dream Castle. All the ponies and Spike who were covered in Smooze are cleaned by the Flutter Ponies' Utter Flutter. The Rainbow of Light is returned to the ponies. With everything fixed, the ponies take Megan and her siblings back home.
