My Little Pony is an animated TV show from 1986-1987. It was made by Sunbow Productions and Marvel Productions. The animation was done by Toei Animation and AKOM. The show is based on the popular My Little Pony toys from Hasbro.
This series was the first part of a show called My Little Pony 'n Friends. The second part would be a different cartoon based on other Hasbro toys, like The Glo Friends, MoonDreamers, and Potato Head Kids. The show first aired on September 15, 1986. This was almost three months after My Little Pony: The Movie came out. That movie introduced many of the main characters and the Paradise Estate, where the ponies live. The TV series ended on September 25, 1987.
Two earlier TV specials, Rescue at Midnight Castle and Escape from Catrina, were later edited into parts of the My Little Pony 'n Friends show. You can find the full series of My Little Pony episodes on DVD.

What the Show Is About
Ponyland is a magical place filled with all sorts of amazing creatures. The Little Ponies live in a peaceful home called Paradise Estate. They spend their days singing songs and playing games.
But Ponyland isn't always peaceful! There are many creatures who aren't so friendly. The Ponies often have to protect themselves from witches, trolls, goblins, and other beasts. These bad guys want to harm the Little Ponies, or even take over their home.

Main Characters
The show features many different kinds of ponies and other creatures:
- Earth Ponies look like regular horses but have bright, colorful bodies.
- Pegasus Ponies are winged horses that can fly high in the skies of Ponyland. They can even fly beyond the rainbow to our world!
- Unicorn Ponies have a single horn on their forehead. They can teleport short distances (called 'winking in' and 'winking out'). Each unicorn also has a special power, like reading minds or moving things with their thoughts.
- Flutter Ponies are shy but very strong creatures. Their delicate wings give them the power of flight and other magical abilities. They live in a place called Flutter Valley.
- Sea Ponies are colorful, seahorse-like creatures. They live in the rivers and lakes of Ponyland.
- The Bushwoolies are happy, fluffy creatures. They often think alike, almost like they share one mind. Hugster, a blue Bushwoolie, seems to be their leader.
- The Furbobs are related to the Bushwoolies. Unlike the Bushwoolies, they usually disagree with each other. If they ever agree, it means something very serious is happening!
- Stonebacks are fierce-looking creatures that look a bit like armadillos. They used to be enemies of the Furbobs until Megan helped them become friends.
- The Grundles are a small group of creatures led by the Grundle King. They used to live in Grundleland, but now they live in Dream Castle.
- Human Children: Three human siblings, Megan, Danny, and Molly, often travel across the Rainbow to visit the Little Ponies and help them.
- The Moochick is a wise but quirky gnome. He lives in the Mushromp with his rabbit helper, Habbit. The characters often ask him for advice about magic.
Adventures in Ponyland
The My Little Pony series had two seasons, with a total of 65 episodes. Each episode was about 10 minutes long. The ponies and their human friends, Megan, Danny, and Molly, went on many exciting adventures. They often had to protect Ponyland from various threats.
Season 1 (1986)
In the first season, the ponies faced many challenges. For example, in "The End of Flutter Valley," they had to help the Flutter Ponies get back their Sun Stone from evil witches and giant bees. Without it, Flutter Valley would be destroyed! They also dealt with a "ghost" at Paradise Estate, and even a self-obsessed witch who wanted to turn the world into glass.
Other adventures included finding a giant puppy, dealing with a rock star who stole shadows, and going on a treasure hunt. The ancient city of Tambelon returned, causing all the unicorns to disappear. The ponies also found magic coins that caused a drought when used carelessly. They even helped a hobo who brought bad luck everywhere he went.
Some stories involved magical flowers taking over, a young boy trying to be a knight, and the Penguin King trying to freeze Ponyland. A rock dog turned things to stone, and even the furniture in Paradise Estate came to life and declared war! The ponies also traveled through a magical door to the world of fairy tales, meeting characters like Robin Hood and Hercules.
Season 2 (1987)
The second season brought new dangers and quests. In "The Quest of the Princess Ponies," a lava demon named Lavan kidnapped the princess ponies and stole their magic wands, throwing Ponyland's magic into chaos. Spike, the dragon, went on a journey to find his family but learned that being a bully wasn't for him.
The ponies also searched for golden horseshoes to heal a sick unicorn. They helped an elf rescue his true love from an enchanted castle. Even the baby ponies had adventures, like trying to reunite feuding ice cream makers to get their favorite treat! An old witch named Somnambula put the adult ponies into a trance, forcing the Big Brother ponies to rescue them. The ponies also helped two wronged royals at a fancy party.
These stories taught lessons about friendship, bravery, and helping others.
