Myrnam is a small village located in east central Alberta, Canada. It's about 200 kilometers (124 miles) east of Edmonton, the capital city. The village is known for its mixed farming, which includes raising cattle and growing grains.

Myrnam's Story: A Look Back

The story of Myrnam began in August 1908 when its post office first opened. A small community started to grow around it. Many of the first people to settle here were immigrants from Ukraine. They named their new home "Myrnam," which means "peace to us" in Ukrainian.

Later, in 1927, the Canadian Pacific Railway built a train stop and a new town area. They kept the name Myrnam. The community officially became a village on August 22, 1930.

Myrnam also has a special place in Canadian history. The old Myrnam Hospital was featured in a "Heritage Minute." These are short videos that tell important stories from Canada's past. The video showed how the village helped build a bigger hospital for Myrnam and the surrounding area.
