Màrius Torres (born August 30, 1910 – died October 29, 1942) was an important Catalan poet. His poems were first published by his friend, writer Joan Sales, in Mexico. Màrius Torres became one of the most influential poets in Catalonia during the 30 years after the Spanish Civil War. Today, he is seen as one of the most significant Catalan poets of the 1900s.

Early Life and Education
Màrius Torres was the son of Humbert Torres, who was a doctor and a politician. Màrius studied at the Liceu Escolar in Lleida from 1920 to 1926. After that, he went to the University of Barcelona and earned a degree in Medicine.
Life During the Spanish Civil War
During the Spanish Civil War, Màrius Torres used a special pen name, Gregori Sastre, to sign his writings. A pen name is a fake name used by a writer instead of their real name. At this time, he was staying in different hospitals to get treatment for tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is a serious lung disease. He passed away in 1942 and was buried in Sant Quirze Safaja.
Legacy and Recognition
Even though Màrius Torres died young, his poetry has had a lasting impact. Today, there is a public high school in his hometown of Lleida named after him. It is called Institut Màrius Torres. This shows how much he is remembered and respected for his contributions to Catalan literature.
