Mía Maestro, born on June 19, 1978, is a talented actress and singer from Argentina. You might know her from her exciting roles in popular TV shows and movies. Early Life and Acting Career
Mía Maestro was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on June 19, 1978. She started her acting journey on stage. In 1998, she played Lulu in the play Pandora's Box in Buenos Aires. For this role, she won an ACE Award for Best New Artist.
Her first movie was Carlos Saura’s Tango in 1998. This film was nominated for both Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Foreign Film.
Becoming a Star in TV and Movies
In 2004, Mía joined the cast of the popular TV show Alias for two seasons. She played Nadia Santos, a key character in the series. That same year, she appeared in the Argentine film La Niña Santa and The Motorcycle Diaries. The latter film was about the early life of Che Guevara.
She also starred in the thriller Secuestro Express in 2005. In December 2005, she was in Prince's music video for "Te Amo Corazón". This video was directed by their friend Salma Hayek.
In 2006, Mía co-starred in the movie Poseidon. She played Elena Gonzalaz, a girl trying to reach her sick brother. She also acted in the musical play My Life as a Fairytale, which was inspired by the famous author Hans Christian Andersen.
Later Roles and Recent Work
Mía Maestro played Carmen of the Denali Coven in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (2011) and Part 2 (2012). These movies were a big part of The Twilight Saga.
She also had a main role as Dr. Nora Martinez in the vampire horror series The Strain from 2014 to 2015. In 2015, she guest-starred in the TV series Hannibal.
In 2019, Mía starred as Sonia in the drama End of the Century. She also played Magdalena in The Cow Who Sang a Song Into the Future (2022), which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2022, it was announced that Mía would play Natalia Revuelta Clews in the movie Alina of Cuba. Her latest film, Grassland, was released in June 2024.
Musical Career
Besides acting, Mía Maestro is also a singer-songwriter. She has performed in cities like Los Angeles, New York City, and Buenos Aires.
In 2010, she performed in Iceland, opening for the singer Emiliana Torrini. She also worked with the UK band Faithless, singing on their song "Love is My Condition" from their album The Dance.
Mía's song "Lloverá" was featured on the Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 soundtrack. In November 2012, she released an EP called Blue Eyed Sailor. This EP included three songs: "Blue Eyed Sailor", "Time to Go" (with Damien Rice), and "Lloverá". It also had a music video for "Blue Eyed Sailor".
On October 7, 2014, Mía Maestro released her first album, Si Agua. It was recorded in Iceland.
