Nandu Bhende (born Sadanand Atmaram Bhende; 27 November 1952 – 11 April 2014) was a famous Indian singer and actor. He was known for his powerful voice and his important role in bringing rock music to India.

About Nandu Bhende
Nandu Bhende was the son of Atmaram Bhende, a well-known Marathi actor and director. His mother was Dr Asha Bhende. Nandu was a talented artist who worked in theatre, sang, composed music, and produced shows.
He was one of the first people to introduce rock music to India. He sang with several bands in the 1970s, like Velvette Fogg, Brief Encounter, and Savage Encounter.
Nandu also acted in many famous plays. He played the role of Judas in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar. He even played Jesus in another version of the same show. He also acted in plays like Tommy, Fantastiks, and Jaya.
Besides theatre, Nandu was a playback singer for Bollywood films. This means he sang songs for actors to lip-sync on screen. His most famous work was in the 1982 musical film "Disco Dancer". For his work on this film, he received a special award called a Gold Disc.
Nandu Bhende passed away on 11 April 2014 in Mumbai. He was married and had two children.

Theatre Performances
Nandu Bhende was a very important part of Indian theatre. His role as Judas in "Superstar" was highly praised. This led him to play "Mack the Knife" in "Teen Paischacha Tamasha". This was a Marathi musical version of a famous play called "The Threepenny Opera". Nandu also helped compose some of the music for this show.
In 1982, he played the main role in the Indian version of Pete Townsend's "Tommy". He also composed music for this play. Later, he sang and acted in "Jaya," which was India's first original Rock Opera. This was a very grand show with over 40 performers.

Singing for Films and Albums
Nandu Bhende sang for many Hindi films. He worked with famous music directors like R. D. Burman, Laxmikant Pyarelal, and Bappi Lahiri. His song for Bappi Lahiri's film "Disco Dancer" earned him a Gold Disc award.
In the 1980s, Nandu released several successful dance albums. These included "Disco Duniya" and "Disco Nasha" with Music India. Later, HMV released his albums "Disco Zamana" and "Disco Mazaa".
He also recorded his first English album called "GET ORGANIZED". This album featured his own songs and some written by the famous poet Nissim Ezekiel. He then released a Hindi pop album called "TERE LIYE".
In 1997, he released a remix album called "Aaa Jaane Jaa". In 2001, he released another remix album in Marathi called "Spicy Mango-Raapchick Remix". This album became very popular with young people in Maharashtra.
