Narelda Jacobs is a well-known Australian journalist and television presenter. She is famous for reading the news and hosting TV shows. Her career with Network 10 started in Perth, Western Australia, in the year 2000.
In 2020, she moved to Sydney to work on Studio 10. She also continued to present 10 News First for Perth. Today, Jacobs presents the national news bulletins 10 News First: Midday and 10 News First: Afternoons. She also works with NITV on a show called The Point. Early Life and Learning
Narelda Jacobs grew up in Perth, Western Australia. She is from the Whadjuk Noongar people. Her father, Cedric, was a reverend in the Uniting Church in Australia. Her mother, Margaret, also worked in the church.
Narelda was the youngest of five daughters. Her mother was from Belfast and had Irish and English family. Her father was a Whadjuk Noongar man. He was part of the Stolen Generations, which means he was taken from his family when he was young. Her father was very active in Aboriginal politics. Journalists often visited their home or called her father. Narelda and her parents always liked to know what was happening in the news. Narelda decided in Year 7 that she wanted to be a journalist. She went to Hampton Senior High School.
After high school, Narelda applied to a performing arts school but was not accepted. Her first job was at the National Native Title Tribunal (NNTT). She soon moved to their media team. Later, she had a daughter. With her family's help, Narelda went back to work at the NNTT. After five years, her boss encouraged her to apply for the performing arts school again. This time, she was accepted. She studied broadcast journalism there.
Her Career in TV
After finishing her studies, Narelda Jacobs started her career at GWN in Bunbury. In 2000, she joined Ten News in Perth. She became a court reporter and sometimes filled in as a weather presenter. In 2008, Network Ten decided to produce their Perth news bulletin in Perth again. Narelda was chosen as the new presenter.
In March 2019, Narelda co-hosted SBS's broadcast of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. She also co-hosted this event in 2020 and 2021.
On January 13, 2020, Narelda moved to Sydney. She had worked at 10 News First Perth for 20 years. In Sydney, she joined the Studio 10 morning talk show as a panellist. Later in 2020, she returned to read the Perth edition of 10 News First. She managed both roles at the same time.
In 2020 and 2021, Narelda co-hosted the Sunrise Ceremony on January 26 (Australia Day). She hosted it with John Paul Janke. This event was shown on NITV, SBS, and Channel 10.
In late 2022, it was announced that Narelda would host a new news bulletin. It was called 10 News First: Midday. She started hosting on January 9, 2023. This show comes after Studio 10 and airs from 12:00pm to 1:00pm.
In 2023, she presented an episode of Compass. The episode was called "Come Together".
Jacobs has also appeared on other TV shows. These include The Project, Insiders, Q+A, and The Drum. She also works as a moderator and speaker. She was in the TV documentary The Dark Emu Story. She has also acted in Australian drama series. These include Safe Home and Total Control. She also co-hosted a podcast called 456 Club.
Awards and Recognition
In the 2023 King's Birthday Honours, Narelda Jacobs received an important award. She was given the Medal of the Order of Australia. This award was for her "service to the media, and to the community".

In November 2021, Narelda Jacobs joined a new group. It was the first National Indigenous Advisory Group for Football Australia. This group helps to support and increase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people playing soccer. She was also an ambassador for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
Narelda is an ambassador for several organizations. These include the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation. Narelda Jacobs lives in Sydney with her wife, Karina Natt. They got married in August 2024. Narelda's daughter, Jade Dolman, is an artist. She is known by the name JD Penangke.
