Nasim Zehra (Urdu: نسیم زہرہ) is a Pakistani journalist and writer. She is well-known for hosting a popular TV show that discusses important current events on Channel 24.

Becoming a Journalist

Nasim Zehra studied business at Quaid-e-Azam University in Pakistan. Later, in 1989, she studied diplomacy at the Fletcher School at Tufts University.

After her studies, she worked to help countries develop. She worked with groups like the Canadian International Development Agency and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. She also taught as a guest lecturer at important universities. These included the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in 2006. She also taught at Quaid-i-Azam University in 2010.

Her Career in Television

Nasim Zehra started her TV career in November 2008. She joined Dunya News as a TV host. She hosted a show called Policy Matters until February 2013. During this time, she interviewed many important leaders from Pakistan and around the world. One person she interviewed was Michael Mullen.

In April 2013, she moved to Capital TV. There, she became the editor for current events. She worked there until October 2014. In September 2015, she became a visiting professor at the National University of Sciences and Technology. She stayed in that role until February 2016. In October 2014, she joined Channel 24, where she still works today.

Nasim Zehra has also written many articles for newspapers. Her articles have appeared in the Dubai-based Gulf News, the UAE-based Khaleej Times, and the Saudi-Arabia-based Arab News.

Her Book

In 2018, Nasim Zehra wrote a book called From Kargil to the coup: Events that shook Pakistan. This book talks about the Kargil conflict that happened in 1999. It also explains how this event affected the relationship between India and Pakistan.

When her book was launched, many journalists and experts discussed it. They talked about Pakistan's foreign policy and military affairs. Some of the people who discussed her book included journalists Arif Nizami and Sohail Warraich. A former Foreign Secretary, Salman Bashir, also joined the discussion.

A Top Female Journalist

On March 8, 2023, The Friday Times newspaper in Pakistan published a list. It was a list of the 'Top Female Journalists in Pakistan'. Nasim Zehra was included on this important list.

She was quoted saying that being a journalist in Pakistan is like being on a roller coaster. She said it is tough but also rewarding. She mentioned that journalists have to be very careful and thoughtful about their work.

Awards and Recognition

Nasim Zehra has received an important award for her work.

  • Agahi Award for excellence in journalism - She was named 'Journalist of the Year' in 2016. This award recognized her as the 'Most Credible Anchor of the Year'. The Agahi Foundation, a non-profit group in Pakistan, gives out these awards.
