Nathan Robinson (born December 31, 1981) is a Canadian who used to play professional ice hockey. He was a forward, which means he played in the front of the team, trying to score goals. Nathan played a few games in the biggest hockey league, the National Hockey League (NHL), for teams like the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins. But most of his long career, from 2002 to 2020, was spent playing hockey in Europe.

Nathan Robinson's Hockey Journey

Starting in Canada

Nathan Robinson started his journey in major junior hockey. He played for the Belleville Bulls in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). In the 2001-02 season, he was the top scorer in the OHL, which is a big achievement!

Even though he wasn't picked in the NHL Entry Draft (where NHL teams choose young players), the Detroit Red Wings signed him as a free agent in 2002. He got to play his first NHL games with the Red Wings in the 2003–04 NHL season. He played five games but didn't score any points.

After three years with the Red Wings organization, he signed with the Boston Bruins in 2005. During the 2005–06 season, he played two more NHL games for the Bruins. Again, he didn't score, and he didn't get much time on the ice to show what he could do.

Playing in Europe

In 2006, Nathan decided to move to Europe to continue his hockey career. He first joined Adler Mannheim in Germany. The next season, he moved to Eisbären Berlin. In Germany, he became a really good player in the top league, the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL).

Before the 2009–10 season, he signed a two-year deal to go back to Adler Mannheim. In his first season back, Nathan helped the Eagles win the DEL Championship! This was his third championship win in a row in the DEL, which is super impressive.

During the 2010–11 season, Nathan had a tougher time keeping up his amazing performance. He left Mannheim and joined the Espoo Blues in Finland for the rest of that season. The Espoo Blues ended up winning silver medals that year. In September 2011, he signed a contract with the Vienna Capitals in Austria.

On September 5, 2012, he signed another one-year contract in Germany with the Kölner Haie of the DEL.

Later Career and Retirement

In 2014, Nathan signed a short-term deal with the Nottingham Panthers in the UK. This was exciting because the Panthers were going to play in the Champions Hockey League for the first time! He had to leave the club later that year when his work permit ended. After that, Nathan signed with the Belfast Giants, also in the UK.

After the 2014-15 season, Nathan moved to the Czech Republic to play for HC Slavia Praha in a second-level league. For the 2016-17 season, he played for HC Shakhtyor Soligorsk in Belarus, and then for EHC Bayreuth in Germany's DEL2 league.

Even though he first signed with HC 07 Detva in Slovakia for the 2017-18 season, Nathan switched to the Saale Bulls Halle in Germany after only four games. He played for the Saale Bulls Halle until 2019. He finished his long and successful career in 2020, playing for EC Harzer Falken in Germany.
