Mohamed Nazir bin Abdul Razak (born 19 November 1966) is a Malaysian banking expert. He used to be the chairman of CIMB Group. CIMB is one of the biggest financial companies in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. He was the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of the group from 1999 to 2014. Nazir is the youngest son of Abdul Razak Hussein, who was Malaysia's second Prime Minister. He is also the brother of Najib Razak, who was the sixth Prime Minister.

Early Life and Education
Nazir was born in 1966 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His father passed away when Nazir was nine years old. He went to school at St. John's Institution and Alice Smith School in Malaysia. Later, he continued his studies at Oundle School in the United Kingdom when he was 13.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Politics from the University of Bristol. After that, he got a Master of Philosophy degree in Development Economics from Pembroke College, University of Cambridge. In 2009, he was a Chevening Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. His family background is from the Bugis people.
Career Highlights
After finishing his studies in the United Kingdom, Nazir started working at a bank called Commerce International Merchant Bankers Berhad in 1989. He quickly moved up in the company. By 1999, he became the managing director and Chief Executive of the bank, which was then known as CIMB. He served as CEO until 2014. After that, he became the chairman of CIMB until 2018.
During his time as CEO, Nazir helped CIMB grow a lot. It changed from a smaller Malaysian investment bank into Malaysia's second-largest financial group. It also became one of the biggest banks in Southeast Asia and a leader in Islamic banking worldwide.
In April 2016, Nazir took a short break from CIMB. This was while an independent review was being done about some financial matters. After the review was finished, Nazir was found to have done nothing wrong. He then returned to his role as CIMB Group chairman and a director of CIMB Bank.
Besides his work at CIMB, Nazir also held other important positions. He was a director at Khazanah Nasional Berhad from 2014 to 2018. This is Malaysia's national investment fund. He was also a member of the Investment Panel for the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) from 2002 to 2017. The EPF helps people save for retirement. He also chaired the EPF's Investment Panel Risk Committee.
Since 2015, Nazir has been a member of the International Advisory Board at the Blavatnik School of Government, which is part of the University of Oxford. In October 2016, he became the first chairman of the World Economic Forum's ASEAN Regional Business Council. This group works to build trust and cooperation between governments and businesses in Southeast Asia.
Awards and Recognition
Nazir Razak has received many awards for his work as a top executive at CIMB. In 2009, he was the youngest person to receive FinanceAsia's 'Lifetime Achievement Award'. In 2012, Euromoney gave him the 'Outstanding Achievement Award'. This award recognized his great contributions to the financial markets in Asia.
In October 2015, Asia House honored Nazir Razak with the Asia House Asian Business Leaders Award. He received this award for promoting cooperation and partnership across Southeast Asia. This included his support for learning, research, and charity work. His business strategies also showed how successful regional efforts can bring people together for good.
Personal Life
Nazir was married to Azlina Aziz until 2023. Azlina is the daughter of Abdul Aziz Taha, who used to be the governor of Bank Negara Malaysia (Malaysia's central bank). Nazir and Azlina have two children, Arman and Marissa.
On 17 November 2023, Nazir married Yati Zainuddin, who is a businesswoman. They first met when they were both students in the United Kingdom.
