Her Life Story
Rahah was born in Muar, Johor, on June 11, 1933. She was the youngest of ten children. While she was attending secondary school in Johor Bahru, she met Abdul Razak Hussein. He was already active in a political party called the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO). They got married on September 4, 1952.
Abdul Razak became the second Prime Minister of Malaysia in 1970. As the Prime Minister's wife, Rahah had important roles. She was the President of the Girl Guides Association of Malaysia. She was also a patron for the Muslim Women's Action Organisation (Pertiwi). In 1976, Abdul Razak passed away while still in office. This made Rahah a widow at 43 years old.
She was also the chancellor of Universiti Tun Abdul Razak. This university was started to honor her husband. Because Abdul Razak was the Prime Minister who started friendly relations with China, all new Chinese ambassadors would visit Rahah when they arrived in Malaysia. In an interview from 2011, Rahah shared that she spent most of her time attending religious classes with her friends.
