A Look Back: Neck City's History

Neck City started out as a mining settlement. Mining settlements are towns that grew up around places where people dug for valuable minerals. This particular settlement had a very unusual name: Hell's Neck.

Later, in 1899, a post office was opened there, and the name was shortened to just Neck. Then, in 1957, the name was changed again to Neck City, which is what it's called today. People often notice Neck City because of its unique name!

Neck City is found in Missouri, between two rivers: the Spring River and the North Fork Spring River. It's about nine miles (or 14.5 kilometers) northwest of a bigger city called Carthage.
