Neck Lake is a beautiful mountain lake located in Idaho, United States. It's found high up in the White Cloud Mountains, which are part of the amazing Sawtooth National Recreation Area. This special lake is in Custer County.

Neck Lake is known as an alpine lake. This means it's located very high up in the mountains. It sits at an elevation of about 3,060 meters (10,039 feet) above sea level. It's a peaceful spot surrounded by stunning natural beauty.
How Was Neck Lake Formed?
Neck Lake is a type of lake called a glacial lake. This means it was formed a very long time ago by huge sheets of ice called glaciers. As glaciers moved, they carved out hollows in the land. When the glaciers melted, these hollows filled with water, creating lakes like Neck Lake.
Exploring the Area Around Neck Lake
You can reach Neck Lake by hiking on Sawtooth National Forest trail 601. This trail takes you through beautiful mountain scenery. The lake is quite small, about 75 meters (246 feet) long and 35 meters (115 feet) wide.
Neck Lake is located near several other interesting natural features. It is just south of Calkins Peak and northeast of D. O. Lee Peak. You can also find other lakes nearby, such as Sheep Lake downstream and Slide Lake upstream. Water flows out of Neck Lake into Bighorn Creek, which then joins Big Boulder Creek and finally the East Fork Salmon River.
