Neha Kakkar Singh (born 6 June 1988) is a very popular Indian singer. She is known for her energetic voice and many hit songs. Neha is the younger sister of other famous singers, Tony Kakkar and Sonu Kakkar. She started singing at a very young age at religious events.

In 2005, she joined the TV singing competition Indian Idol. Later, she sang in Bollywood movies. Her career really took off with songs like "Second Hand Jawaani" from Cocktail (2012). She then sang many party hits, including "Sunny Sunny" from Yaariyan and "London Thumakda" from Queen (2014). Besides singing for films, Neha has appeared in music videos and judged TV shows like Indian Idol.

Neha Kakkar is one of the most-watched female artists on YouTube. In 2019, her videos had over 13.9 billion views. In January 2021, she became the first Indian singer to win a YouTube Diamond Award. She is also the most followed female Indian artist on Spotify. India Forbes magazine listed her among the top 100 celebrities in 2017 and 2019. In December 2020, Forbes also named her one of Asia's 100 Digital Stars.

Early life and first steps in music

Neha Kakkar was born on June 6, 1988, in Rishikesh, which is in Uttarakhand, India. In the early 1990s, her family moved to Delhi to help her pursue singing. Neha started performing at local events and religious gatherings when she was just four years old.

In 2004, she moved to Mumbai with her brother, Tony Kakkar. When she was eighteen, in 2006, Neha tried out for the second season of Indian Idol. She was eliminated early in the show, but this did not stop her.

Building a music career

Starting out: 2005–2012

After Indian Idol, Neha released her first album, Neha The Rockstar, in 2008. Her brother, Tony Kakkar, composed music for her album Romeo Juliet. She also sang "Hai Rama" for the film Meerabai Not Out (2008). In 2009, she provided chorus vocals for A. R. Rahman's song in the film Blue. She also sang the title song for the TV show Na Aana Is Des Laado.

In 2010, Neha acted in the film Isi Life Mein...! as a college student. That same year, she started singing in Kannada and Telugu films. Her song "Nodu Baare" from the Kannada film Thamassu earned her a nomination for the Best Female Playback Singer. She also appeared on the comedy show Comedy Circus Ke Taansen with Kapil Sharma.

A big moment for Neha came in 2012 with the song "Second Hand Jawaani" from the film Cocktail. This dance track became very popular. In 2012, she also released "SRK Anthem" on YouTube, which was a special song for actor Shah Rukh Khan.

Hit songs: 2013–2016

In 2013, Neha sang "Botal Khol" from Prague and "Jadoo Ki Jhappi" from Ramaiya Vastavaiya. She also sang "Dhating Nach" with Nakash Aziz.

2014 was a big year for Neha with three super hit songs. She teamed up with Yo Yo Honey Singh for "Sunny Sunny" from Yaariyan. They also worked together on "Manali Trance" from The Shaukeens. In 2015, Neha sang "Ek Do Teen Chaar" and "Tu Isaq Mera". She also contributed to "Tukur Tukur" from Dilwale with other singers. She appeared in the music video "Wedding Da Season" with Shilpa Shetty.

2016 brought more success. Neha sang "Mile Ho Tum" from Fever, which became one of the most-viewed Bollywood songs on YouTube. She also sang the wedding anthem "Kala Chashma" from Baar Baar Dekho. Other popular songs included "Humne Pee Rakhi Hai" from Sanam Re and "Kar Gayi Chull" from Kapoor & Sons. She also sang remakes of old songs like "Maahi Ve" and "O Janiya".

Collaborations and remakes: 2017–present

From 2017 onwards, Neha Kakkar started working a lot with music producer Tanishk Bagchi. They became known for recreating many old Bollywood songs. Their first hit together was "Badri Ki Dulhania" from Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017). This song became very popular and has over 500 million views on YouTube. They also remade "Cheez Badi" from Machine.

She sang "Main Tera Boyfriend" from Raabta and two remade songs for Judwaa 2. In 2017, she also became a judge on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs 2017. The year ended with another remake, "Mehbooba" from Fukrey Returns.

In 2018, Neha and Tanishk Bagchi had huge hits with "Dilbar" from Satyameva Jayate and "Aankh Maarey" from Simmba. Both songs reached the list of most-viewed Indian videos on YouTube. "Dilbar" even reached number three on the Billboard YouTube Music Chart. She also sang "Dholida" from Loveyatri and "Bhangra Da Sajda" from Veere Di Wedding. Neha continued to judge Indian Idol in its tenth season.

2019 saw more remakes like "Chamma Chamma", "Coca Cola Tu" from Luka Chuppi, and "Hauli Hauli". She also worked with Vishal Mishra on "Ki Honda Pyaar". Neha, Tanishk Bagchi, and dancer Nora Fatehi teamed up for "O Saki Saki" from Batla House and "Ek Toh Kum Zindagani" from Marjaavaan. She also sang "Dheeme Dheeme" and the romantic song "Tu Hi Yaar Mera".

Neha Kakkar performed at Expo 2020 in Dubai, UAE, on December 12, 2021. In 2022, she sang "Mud Mud Ke" with Tony Kakkar and "Baarish Mein Tum" with Rohanpreet Singh. She also sang "Bijli" from the movie Govinda Naam Mera with Mika Singh.

Personal life

Neha Kakkar was in a relationship with actor Himansh Kohli from 2014. They announced their relationship on TV in 2018. However, they broke up a few months later.

Neha met Punjabi singer Rohanpreet Singh in Chandigarh. They quickly fell in love and got married on October 24, 2020, in a Gurdwara in New Delhi.
