Nentón is a town and a special area (called a municipality) in Guatemala. It's part of the Huehuetenango region. Nentón covers about 717 square kilometers, which is a bit bigger than a medium-sized city. Around 45,679 people live there.

Nentón became a municipality on December 5, 1876. Before that, it was known as San Benito Nentón. The people living in Nentón speak two main languages: Spanish and Chuj.

Every year, Nentón holds a town fair from January 12 to 15. This fair honors Santo Cristo de Esquipulas, an important religious figure.

Northern Development Zone

Nentón is part of a special area in Guatemala called the Northern Transversal Strip (or Franja Transversal del Norte). This zone was created in 1970 to help with farming and development in the region. It was designed to bring growth and new opportunities to these areas.

Where is Nentón Located?

Nentón is located in a unique spot. To its north, northwest, and west, it shares borders with Mexico. To the south, it is next to the municipalities of San Sebastián Coatán, San Miguel Acatán, and Jacaltenango. To the east, it borders San Mateo Ixtatán. All these southern and eastern neighbors are also in the Huehuetenango Department.
