She then got her advanced degree in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1992.
After her studies, she did more research at Brown University's Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs from 1994 to 1996. She also taught at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. The Costs of War Project
In 2010, Professor Crawford and Catherine Lutz started the Costs of War Project. Their main goal was to figure out all the costs of the War on Terror. This includes not just money, but also the lives lost and other impacts on people. The project shared its first findings in June 2011 and has continued to publish new information regularly. It is the biggest and most complete public report on the costs of U.S. military actions since the September 11th events.
Other Important Roles
Since October 2017, Professor Crawford has been on the board of the Council for a Livable World. This group works to stop the spread of nuclear weapons. She also helps edit important academic magazines like The Journal of Political Philosophy and Global Perspectives.
In 2021, Professor Crawford was given the special title of Montague Burton Professor of International Relations at the University of Oxford. In 2023, she was chosen to be a Fellow of the British Academy. This is a great honor for researchers in the UK.
