New Baltimore is a small town located in the northeastern part of Greene County, New York, in the United States. In 2020, about 3,226 people lived here. This was a slight decrease from the 3,370 people counted in 2010.

History of New Baltimore

The land where New Baltimore is located was once home to the Mahican people. Around the year 1700, settlers began to arrive. This area was included in early land grants from both the Dutch and English.

New Baltimore officially became a town in 1811. It was formed from a larger town called Coxsackie. By 1900, the town had a population of 1,536 people.

New Baltimore covers a total area of about 43.1 square miles (111.4 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 41.6 square miles (107.7 square kilometers). The rest, about 1.5 square miles (3.9 square kilometers), is water.

The eastern border of the town is the Hudson River. This river also forms the border with Columbia County. To the north, New Baltimore shares a border with Albany County.

Major roads run through the town. These include the New York State Thruway (Interstate 87) and U.S. Route 9W.
