A Look Back in Time

Long before New Haven was built, this area was home to different groups of Native American people. For example, a group from the Late Woodland period called the "Duffy Complex" once had a village southeast of where New Haven is now, near the Wabash River. Today, this old village site is an archaeological site, which means it's a place where scientists study the past by digging up old tools and remains.

Shawneetown, which is the main town for Gallatin County, is about 17 miles (27 km) to the south.
