New Haven is a small village located in Gallatin County, Illinois, in the United States. It sits right by the Little Wabash River, close to where it joins the bigger Wabash River. In 2020, about 399 people lived in New Haven.

A Look Back in Time
Long before New Haven was built, this area was home to different groups of Native American people. For example, a group from the Late Woodland period called the "Duffy Complex" once had a village southeast of where New Haven is now, near the Wabash River. Today, this old village site is an archaeological site, which means it's a place where scientists study the past by digging up old tools and remains.
Where is New Haven?
New Haven is in the very top corner of Gallatin County. The Little Wabash River forms part of its northern border. Illinois Route 141 is a main road that goes through the northern part of the village. If you go east on Route 141 for about 5 miles (8 km), you'll reach the Indiana border at the Wabash River. Going west for about 12 miles (19 km) on the same road will take you to U.S. Route 45 near Omaha, Illinois. Shawneetown, which is the main town for Gallatin County, is about 17 miles (27 km) to the south.
