New Pine Creek is a small community in Lake County, Oregon, United States. It's known as a census-designated place, which means it's an area identified by the U.S. Census Bureau for statistical purposes. It's also an unincorporated community, meaning it doesn't have its own local government.
As of the 2010 census, about 120 people lived here. New Pine Creek has its own post office with the ZIP code 97635. You can find it right on U.S. Route 395, which is a major highway. It sits exactly on the border between Oregon and California, just north of a town also called New Pine Creek, but that one is in California! It's also located east of Goose Lake.

How New Pine Creek Got Its Name
The community was originally going to be named "Pine Creek" after a nearby stream. However, there was already another place using that name. So, the postal authorities suggested "New Pine Creek" instead. The New Pine Creek post office first opened its doors in 1876. The very first postmaster was S. A. Hamersley.

The Border Mystery
New Pine Creek is the southernmost community in Oregon. It's interesting because part of it is actually south of the 42nd parallel, which is the line that's supposed to separate Oregon from California. This boundary line was first set by a treaty called the Adams–Onís Treaty in 1821, between what was then the Oregon Country and New Spain. This line stayed the same when Oregon and California became states.
However, in 1868, a surveying mistake happened. This error caused a part of New Pine Creek to be placed inside Oregon, even though it was technically south of the official line. In 1984, officials from California and Oregon talked about this mistake after it was discovered. But in the end, New Pine Creek's status as part of Oregon didn't change.
