Two main roads, State Route 21 and State Route 24, pass through the town. State Route 21 is a four-lane highway. It goes northwest for about 14 miles (23 km) to Sylvania, which is the main town in Screven County. It also goes southeast for about 20 miles (32 km) to Springfield.
State Route 24 runs north and south through the center of Newington. It goes north for about 28 miles (45 km) to Hiltonia. It also travels southwest for about 23 miles (37 km) to Statesboro.
