History of Newnham

Newnham officially became known as a "locality" in 1963. Before that, in 1961, there was an idea to call the suburb "Mowbray Heights." However, this name was never made official.

Geography and the Tamar River

The beautiful Tamar River forms the south-western edge of Newnham. This means that part of the suburb borders the river's waters.

Roads and Getting Around

The main road that goes through Newnham is called Route A8, also known as the East Tamar Highway. This highway runs from the south to the north of the suburb, making it easy to travel in and out of the area.
