Starting in Switzerland
Nico Elvedi was born in Zürich, Switzerland. He started his football journey as a young player for FC Zürich. He made his first big league appearance on 15 May 2014. This was in the Swiss Super League against FC Lausanne-Sport. He played the whole match, and his team won 1–0.
Moving to Germany
In 2015, Nico joined Borussia Mönchengladbach. This is a well-known club in Germany's top league, the Bundesliga. He moved for about €4 million. He scored his first goal in the Bundesliga in 2017. This important goal happened during a derby match against 1. FC Köln. Borussia Mönchengladbach won that game 1–0.
International Career Highlights
Playing for Switzerland
Nico Elvedi played for different Swiss youth teams as he grew up. He made his first appearance for the senior Switzerland national football team on 28 May 2016. This was in a friendly match against Belgium. Switzerland lost that game 2–1.
World Cups and European Championships
Nico was chosen to be part of Switzerland's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. This is a huge tournament where countries compete for the world title.
