Nico Elvedi (born 30 September 1996) is a professional football player from Switzerland. He plays as a centre-back or right-back. Currently, he plays for the Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach. He also represents the Swiss national team.

Club Career
Nico Elvedi started his football journey in Zürich, Switzerland. He joined the youth academy of FC Zürich. He worked hard and moved up through their youth teams.
Early Days at FC Zürich
Elvedi made his first big league appearance on 15 May 2014. This was in the Swiss Super League. His team, FC Zürich, won the game 1–0 against FC Lausanne-Sport. He played the entire match.
Moving to Germany
In 2015, Elvedi moved to Germany. He joined the club Borussia Mönchengladbach. The transfer fee was about €4 million. He quickly became an important player for the team.
He scored his first goal in the Bundesliga in 2017. This was during a local derby match against 1. FC Köln. Borussia Mönchengladbach won that game 1–0. As of January 2025, he has played over 270 games for the club, scoring 15 goals.
International Career
Nico Elvedi has played for Switzerland at many levels. He started with the Swiss youth teams. He played for the Under-17, Under-18, and Under-19 squads.
Senior National Team Debut
He made his first appearance for the senior Switzerland national football team on 28 May 2016. This was in a friendly match against Belgium. Switzerland lost that game 2–1.
Playing in Major Tournaments
Elvedi has represented Switzerland in several major international tournaments:
- 2018 FIFA World Cup: He was part of the 23-man squad for the World Cup.
- 2019 UEFA Nations League Finals: He played in this tournament where Switzerland finished in 4th place.
- UEFA Euro 2020: In 2021, he was called up for the European Championship. The Swiss team surprised many by beating France. They reached the quarter-finals before losing to Spain.
- 2022 FIFA World Cup: Elvedi was also in the 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup. Switzerland reached the round-of-16 but were defeated by Portugal with a score of 6-1.
