Life and Career Highlights

Early Life and Discovering Acting

Nicoletta was born to an Italian father from Florence and an American mother. She was even related to the famous philosopher and writer Niccolò Machiavelli. Before acting, she studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, an art school in Florence.

Nicoletta got noticed after trying out for a role in the movie The Bible: In the Beginning..., directed by John Huston. A big film producer named Dino De Laurentiis saw her talent. He offered her a seven-year acting contract. However, Nicoletta decided to end the contract after three years.

Starting Her Acting Journey

Her very first movie role was playing the wife of Ugo Tognazzi in A Question of Honour. After a few comedy films, Nicoletta became known for her roles in specific types of movies. She often appeared in "Spaghetti Westerns." These were Western movies made by Italian directors, like Navajo Joe by Sergio Corbucci.

Moving to Art Films

From the late 1960s, Nicoletta began working on more serious and artistic films. She had the chance to work with many famous directors. These included Pietro Germi, Dino Risi, and Liliana Cavani. These films were often thought-provoking and different from typical Hollywood movies.

Life After Acting

In 1984, Nicoletta Machiavelli decided to stop acting. She became a follower of a spiritual teacher named Osho. Later, she moved to Seattle, Washington, in the United States. In Seattle, she shared her knowledge by teaching Italian. She taught at Bellevue College and the University of Washington. Nicoletta passed away on November 15, 2015, at the age of 71.
