Niederurnen was once a town, or municipality, in the canton of Glarus in Switzerland. Since January 1, 2011, Niederurnen has been part of a larger municipality called Glarus Nord.

Niederurnen covers an area of about 14.1 square kilometers (which is about 5.4 square miles). A large part of this land, about 37.2%, is used for farming. Forests cover an even bigger part, about 45.9% of the area.

Around 10.6% of the land has buildings or roads on it. The remaining 6.4% includes natural features like rivers, glaciers, or mountains.

Niederurnen is located in a region called the Glarner Unterland. It sits at the entrance of a valley known as the Niederurnertal or Alpental. The area includes the main village of Niederurnen and an industrial area called Ziegelbrücke. The A3 highway separates Ziegelbrücke from the rest of the town.
