Nimpo Lake is a beautiful freshwater lake in the Chilcotin District of British Columbia, Canada. It is about 300 kilometres (185 miles) west of Williams Lake. You can find it along the Chilcotin Highway (Hwy 20).

This lake is quite large, stretching over 11 kilometres (7 miles) long. It has many calm bays and covers an area of about 9.88 square kilometres.

Nimpo Lake: The Floatplane Hub

Nimpo Lake is often called "The Floatplane Capital of British Columbia." This is because so many floatplanes land and take off from its waters.

Because of all the floatplane activity, the different parts of the lake have special names. The North Arm is at the very top, while the South Arm is at the other end. The Short Arm is on the eastern side, where a floatplane base is located.

Fishing for Rainbow Trout

Nimpo Lake is a great spot for fishing! It has many wild rainbow trout. These fish are known for being strong fighters when you try to catch them.

Anglers, or people who fish, often catch these trout by trolling or using a flyline. The lake was even chosen to host the 1993 Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships because of its popularity.

Fun Things to Do at Nimpo Lake

Nimpo Lake is a popular place for tourists. There are several resorts around the lake. These resorts offer different kinds of places to stay, from fancy suites to cozy cabins. You can also find spots for Recreational vehicles.

The lake is a starting point for exploring the wild areas nearby. Many of these places can only be reached by floatplane or by hiking.

Amazing Sights from the Sky

You can take a flightseeing tour over Hunlen Falls. This is the third longest freefalling waterfall in Canada. You can also fly over the colorful Rainbow Mountains. Or see Monarch Mountain and its untouched icefields.

Outdoor Adventures

There are many activities for visitors to enjoy in the area. You can go canoeing on the Turner Lake Chain in nearby Tweedsmuir Park.
