Nizan Mansur de Carvalho Guanaes Gomes (born May 9, 1958) is a famous Brazilian businessman and advertising expert. He is also a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, which means he helps promote peace and understanding around the world.

Nizan is the founder and CEO of N.ideias, a company that helps other big companies with their plans. He also helped start the ABC Group, which was a very important advertising group in Brazil.

He has been recognized as one of the most influential Brazilians by the Financial Times and one of the most creative people in the world by Fast Company. In 2021, he received a special award called the Order of Rio Branco for his work in business and helping society.

Early Life and Career

Nizan Guanaes was born in 1958 in Salvador, Bahia, a city in Brazil. He studied business administration at the Universidade Federal da Bahia. He started his career writing advertisements in his hometown.

Later, he moved to Rio de Janeiro and then to São Paulo. In São Paulo, he became known as a very skilled advertising writer.

Winning Awards for Advertising

In 1988, Nizan won a big award called the Gold Lion at the Cannes Festival. He won it for a famous TV ad he created for the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo. This ad, called "Hitler," is considered one of the best ads ever made.

The next year, he bought an advertising agency called DM9. This agency later joined with DDB, becoming DM9DDB. In 2000, DM9 was bought by DDB Worldwide.

Starting New Companies

In 2000, Nizan also started an internet website called iG. It became the second-largest free internet portal in Brazil.

Two years later, in 2002, Nizan and his business partner, João Augusto (Guga) Valente, created the ABC Group. This group became a very successful company that owned many advertising agencies.

Helping UNESCO and Other Causes

In 2004, Nizan helped start the Association of Entrepreneurs Friends of UNESCO. This group works to improve public education, promote culture, and protect Brazil's historical places.

Since 2010, Nizan has been part of a special group for UNAIDS. This is a program from the United Nations (UN) that works to find ways to prevent HIV.

Nizan is also a member of several important non-profit groups. These include the Clinton Global Initiative, which helps people solve global problems, and the World Economic Forum, which brings leaders together to discuss world issues like health and the environment. He also supports Endeavor, which helps valuable entrepreneurs, and the Women in the World Foundation, which helps women and girls.

Nizan also writes articles for the "Market" section of the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper every two weeks.

ABC Group and Its Success

The ABC Group was founded by Nizan Guanaes and Guga Valente in March 2002. It grew to include many different companies. Some of these companies were Africa, DM9DDB, and Interbrand.

In the same year, Nizan also founded Africa, which became one of the ten largest advertising agencies in Brazil by 2015. In 2015, the ABC Group was sold to Omnicom Group. This was the biggest deal ever in the Brazilian advertising market.

  • Also in 2011, Fast Company named him one of the world's 100 most creative people.
  • In May 2021, Nizan was named a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. He received this title for his support of UNESCO's work in education, helping people feel included, and empowering groups that need help.
  • In 2013, Exame magazine listed him as one of sixteen Brazilian entrepreneurs who were sure to make history.
  • In 2014, GQ magazine named him Man of the Year in the Leadership category.
  • Also in 2014, he was voted the most trustworthy advertiser for the third time by Seleções magazine and the Brazilian Institute of Public Opinion and Statistics (IBOPE).
  • In December 2014, he won the Jeca Tatu award, which honors the best professionals in Brazilian advertising.

Personal Life

Nizan Guanaes has a son named Antonio Guanaes. He is married to Donata Meirelles, who is a fashion director at Vogue Brazil.
