Nobu Hospitality, LLC is a company that runs popular restaurants and hotels around the world. It was started in 1994 by a team of talented people. The founders include the famous chef Nobu Matsuhisa, well-known actor Robert De Niro, and businessman Meir Teper. They also partnered with Drew Nieporent, who is an expert in running restaurants.

How Nobu Started

Chef Nobu Matsuhisa moved to Los Angeles in 1987. There, he opened his own restaurant called Matsuhisa. A year later, in 1988, actor Robert De Niro visited the restaurant. He really liked the food and became a regular customer.

In 1989, De Niro had an idea. He suggested to Chef Nobu that he open a new restaurant in Tribeca, New York City. Chef Nobu liked the idea, but he wanted to make sure his Los Angeles restaurant was very successful first. So, he politely said no at that time. De Niro waited a few years. In 1994, he asked Chef Nobu again. This time, Chef Nobu agreed to the exciting new project.

Growing the Nobu Brand

Famous Restaurants

In 1994, Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro, Drew Nieporent, and Meir Teper all worked together. They created a new company. On September 17, 1994, the very first Nobu restaurant opened its doors. One of Nobu's most famous dishes is the delicious black cod with miso sauce.

Just three years later, in 1997, the first Nobu restaurant outside the United States opened in London. The company kept growing quickly. By 2018, there were 38 Nobu restaurants. As of December 2021, there are 50 Nobu restaurants serving customers worldwide.

Luxury Hotels

Nobu Hospitality decided to expand into hotels too. The very first Nobu Hotel opened in 2013. It was located inside Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. This was a big step for the company.

Two years later, in May 2015, another Nobu Hotel opened. This one was in the City of Dreams Manila in the Philippines. In October of the same year, a rich Australian businessman named James Packer bought a part of Nobu. He invested US$100 million in the company. By October 2020, the Nobu brand had grown to include 13 hotels.
