Nolan North (born October 31, 1970) is an American actor. He is very well known for his voice acting in many popular video games and animated shows.
He first became famous as Dr. Chris Ramsey on the TV show Port Charles in 1997. After that show ended in 2003, Nolan North started focusing on voice acting. He is now famous for playing characters like Nathan Drake in the Uncharted video game series. He also voiced Desmond Miles in the Assassin's Creed games. Other big roles include Merasmus in Team Fortress 2 and the Penguin in the Batman: Arkham games. He also voiced Ghost in the Destiny series.
In animated TV shows, North voices Smokescreen in Transformers: Prime. He is also the voice of Superboy in Young Justice. Plus, he voices the main character in Blaze and the Monster Machines.

Early Life and Beginnings
Nolan North was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He grew up in Warwick, Rhode Island. There, he went to Bishop Hendricken High School and played baseball.
He studied journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a baseball scholarship. After college, he worked as a reporter for a year in New Jersey. Then, he moved to New York City to try stand-up comedy and acting.
Career Highlights
North later moved to Los Angeles. In 1997, he got a role as Dr. Chris Ramsey in the TV show Port Charles. During this time, he also did some voice acting for video games. After Port Charles finished in 2003, he decided to focus on voice acting.
Becoming Nathan Drake
One of Nolan North's most famous voice roles started in 2007. He voiced and performed the movements for Nathan Drake. This was the main character in the video game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. He continued to play Nathan Drake in many other Uncharted games. These include Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009), Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (2011), and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (2016). He also voiced Drake in Uncharted: Golden Abyss (2012) for the PlayStation Vita.
North explained that playing Drake needed a lot of imagination. He said that performing for motion capture is like theater in a special suit. You use very few props and need to be willing to act silly. For his work as Drake, he was nominated for awards multiple times.
Other Major Voice Roles
Nolan North has voiced many other important video game characters. He was the Prince in Prince of Persia. He also voiced Desmond Miles in the Assassin's Creed series. Other roles include David in The Last of Us. He also played Dr. Edward Richtofen in the "Zombies" mode of the Call of Duty games.
He voiced many characters in Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2. In 2015, he took over as the voice of Ghost in the Destiny game series. He even re-recorded all of the previous voice actor's lines. He continues to voice Ghost in new Destiny games. After Destiny 2: Forsaken came out, he also started voicing Cayde-6.
Live-Action and Animation
Nolan North has mostly focused on voice acting. However, he made a rare appearance in the 2013 movie Star Trek Into Darkness. The director, J. J. Abrams, cast him because he was a big fan of North's work as Nathan Drake.
In animation, North has voiced many characters. He was Cyclops in Wolverine and the X-Men. He also voiced Raphael in the TMNT movie. He played both Superboy and Superman in Young Justice. Since 2014, he has voiced Blaze in Blaze and the Monster Machines.
In 2018, he received a special award from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. This award was for his amazing contributions to acting in video games.
Recent Projects
In April 2018, North started a show called Retro Replay with fellow voice actor Troy Baker. They played games they were in and shared behind-the-scenes stories. The show later ended its partnership with Rooster Teeth.
Nolan North also had a small appearance in the 2022 Uncharted movie. He also narrated the audiobook version of the story. In 2024, he appeared in the TV show Hysteria! as Gene Campbell.
Personal Life
Nolan North married Jill Murray on June 4, 1999. She was also an actress on Port Charles. They have two children together.
