What is the Story About?
The series begins with a huge explosion at the X-Mansion. Charles Xavier and Jean Grey mysteriously disappear. This event causes the X-Men team to break up. Many members, like Cyclops, Storm, and Iceman, go their separate ways.
One year later, a government group called the Mutant Response Division (MRD) starts capturing mutants. They do this because many humans are afraid of mutants. Wolverine and Beast decide to bring the X-Men back together. They want to protect mutants and find their missing friends.
Meanwhile, Rogue is tricked into joining the Brotherhood of Mutants. This group seems to be evil. With help from Angel, the X-Men start rebuilding their team. Junior members like Shadowcat and Forge rejoin. They also rebuild the Xavier Institute. But they need a telepath to use Cerebro and find Professor X and Jean.
Then, Emma Frost, a powerful telepath, offers to join the X-Men. She promises to help find Professor X. Wolverine is hesitant but agrees. Emma successfully locates Professor X on Genosha, being cared for by Magneto. After a brief meeting, Magneto allows the X-Men to take Professor X back.
Back at the mansion, Professor X contacts the team from 20 years in the future. He tells Wolverine that he must lead the X-Men. Their mission is to prevent a terrible war. This war would lead to the world being controlled by Master Mold and the Sentinels.
Throughout the season, Emma helps the X-Men find other members. Some, like Nightcrawler, are unsure at first. Others, like Storm, quickly agree to help. The X-Men face many challenges. They eventually find Jean and learn what caused the mansion explosion.
Magneto welcomes new mutants to Genosha, saying it's a safe place. Nightcrawler believes him at first. But he soon discovers that Magneto is using mutants for his own plans. Nightcrawler escapes but is captured by Mystique when he returns to the mansion.
Wolverine starts having visions from his past. Emma helps him explore these memories. He learns about his past, including meeting Sabretooth. Cyclops is still sad about Jean. He believes she is alive and searches for her with Emma's help. They confront Mister Sinister but learn nothing new about Jean. Wolverine makes Cyclops promise to rejoin the X-Men and stop searching alone. Jean is later shown waking up in a hospital, having been in a coma.
In the final episodes, it's revealed that Jean caused the mansion explosion. She accidentally unleashed the powerful Phoenix Force within her. This happened while Emma, secretly working for the Inner Circle, tried to stop a telepathic attack. The Inner Circle wanted to control the Phoenix Force. Emma realizes their true evil plan and betrays them. She tries to save Jean and destroy the Phoenix Force, seemingly dying in the process. Rogue apologizes to Wolverine and fully rejoins the X-Men. Professor X praises the reformed X-Men. However, he warns them of a new danger: the Age of Apocalypse.

Behind the Scenes: Production and Cancellation
Toonz Animation India and First Serve International worked together to create Wolverine and the X-Men. Production started in November 2007. Marvel Entertainment sold the show in the US.
A second season with 26 episodes was planned. Images for Season 2 showed characters like Bastion, Cable, Deadpool, and Jubilee. However, on April 15, 2010, it was confirmed that the show would not return for a second season. This was due to money problems with their partners. Also, Disney bought Marvel, and Fox owned the movie rights to the X-Men, which made things complicated.
Merchandise and Home Video Releases
Hasbro made a toy line for Wolverine and the X-Men. The first toys included Avalanche, Beast, Colossus, Cyclops, Logan, Iceman, Magneto, and Wolverine. Later waves added Nightcrawler, a Black Uniform Wolverine, Forge, and Toad. No toys were made for the main female characters like Emma Frost or Jean Grey.
The show was released on DVD in many countries. In the United States, Lionsgate Entertainment released the series in several volumes. The complete series was released on DVD on October 12, 2010. You can also watch the entire series on Disney+.
