Becoming a Voice Actor
Troy Baker started his voice acting journey by doing radio commercials in Dallas. A fellow voice actor, Christopher Sabat, helped him get into voice-over work for English versions of anime shows at a company called Funimation. He worked on popular anime like Bleach, Dragon Ball Z, Fullmetal Alchemist, and One Piece.
Later, he moved to Los Angeles and began working on animated series based on Marvel Comics. He voiced many characters in shows like The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and played Hawkeye and Loki in Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers Assemble.
Big Roles in Video Games
Troy's career in video games really took off when he voiced Matt Baker in the Brothers in Arms game series. He once said that actors were becoming more important in games, and he just "stumbled from one job into the next."
His most famous roles came in 2013. He voiced Booker DeWitt in BioShock Infinite and played Joel in The Last of Us. For The Last of Us, he also did the motion capture, which means his movements were recorded to make the character look realistic. Both games were huge hits and won many awards. He even won an award for his role as Joel in The Last of Us at the VGX 2013 awards.
He then worked on Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, where he played Sam, the older brother of the main character, Nathan Drake. He played Sam again in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
In 2011, Troy became the voice of Siris in the mobile game series Infinity Blade. In 2014, he voiced Talion, the main hero of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Troy Baker is one of the few actors who has voiced many famous characters from the Batman universe. He has played Batman himself in games like Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes and Batman: The Telltale Series.
