Nonviolence is a way of life and a belief that says we should never use physical harm or fighting to solve problems. People who believe in nonviolence try to express their ideas peacefully. They might use methods like teaching others, trying to convince people with words, or peacefully refusing to obey certain laws (called civil disobedience). They might also refuse to join the military because of their beliefs.

Sometimes, a group of people will have a demonstration in a public place. This is to show their support for something or to protest against it. These gatherings are usually allowed if they stay peaceful. Even if the people demonstrating are nonviolent, sometimes others who disagree might come and act violently.
