Noordwijkerhout (pronounced like noort-wike-er-howt) is a town in the western part of the Netherlands. It is located in the province of South Holland. This town is famous for being in the "Dune and Bulb Region" (called the Duin- en Bollenstreek in Dutch), which is known for its beautiful tulips and other flowers.

Noordwijkerhout used to be its own municipality (a type of local government area). However, on January 1, 2019, it became part of the larger municipality of Noordwijk. The village of De Zilk also joined Noordwijk at the same time.

History of Noordwijkerhout

The sandy coastal areas where Noordwijkerhout is found have been home to people for a very long time. Scientists have found old tools and items from before the time of Christ in the area just north of the town.

During the time of the Roman Empire, a group of people called the Cananefates lived here. A Roman writer named Tacitus wrote about them.

Fun Things to Do and See

Noordwijkerhout is only about 5 kilometers (about 3 miles) from the North Sea. This means you can easily visit the beach and go for walks in the nearby sand dunes.
