Norman Lawrence Crosby was a famous American comedian. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on September 15, 1927. He passed away on November 7, 2020. People often called him "The Master of Malaprop." This was because he was very good at using words in a funny, mixed-up way.

Norm Crosby's Funny Career

Norm Crosby started his career as a stand-up comedian in the 1950s. He created a friendly, everyday guy image for himself. He made his comedy special by using something called malapropisms. This means he would use a word that sounds similar to the correct word but has a completely different meaning. This made his jokes very unique and funny!

Becoming a TV Star

Norm Crosby first appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in December 1964. This was a very popular TV show. Later, in 1968, he was a co-star on The Beautiful Phyllis Diller Show on NBC.

In 1974, he helped host a TV show in Canada called Everything Goes. He also appeared on many Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts from 1974 to 1984. These were special TV shows where comedians would playfully make fun of famous people. He roasted stars like George Burns and Redd Foxx.

From 1978 to 1981, Norm Crosby hosted his own TV show called The Comedy Shop. On this show, new comedians and older comedy legends shared their jokes.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Norm Crosby also appeared in commercials for Natural Light beer. He was a guest on many game shows too. These included Celebrity Bowling, Liar's Club, Tattletales, and Hollywood Squares.

During World War II, Norm Crosby served in the Coast Guard. He was on a ship that hunted submarines in the North Atlantic. During his service, he got a concussion from exploding depth charges. This caused permanent damage to his hearing. He didn't notice the problem until much later. He wore a hearing aid when he performed on stage.

In 1966, Norm Crosby married Joan Crane Foley. They had two children together. He also became a Freemason in 1956. Freemasons are part of a group that does a lot of charity work. He was a member of Ionic Composite Lodge #520 in Los Angeles, California.

Norm Crosby passed away at his home in Los Angeles, California, on November 7, 2020. He was 93 years old and died from heart failure.
