Norphlet is a small city in Union County, Arkansas, in the United States. In 2010, about 844 people lived there. By 2020, the population was 766.

Norphlet's History
Norphlet was first known as Jesse in the 1880s. The Post Office opened in 1891. The town grew around William G. Miles's Sawmill.
The town was meant to be named after Nauphlet Goodwin. However, the Postal Department misspelled the name. They thought "Nauphlet" looked like "Norphlet" when written by hand. So, the official papers used the name Norphlet.
Oil Discovery in Norphlet
Oil was found in Norphlet in 1922. This discovery was very important. The rock layer where the oil was found is now called a 'Norphlet Formation'. This is a special type of rock layer from the Jurassic period.
Norphlet's Geography
Norphlet covers about 2.1 square miles (5.29 square kilometers). All of this area is land. There are no large bodies of water within the city limits.

School District Changes
Before 2014, Norphlet had its own school district. It had Norphlet Elementary (PreK-6) and Norphlet High School (grades 7–12). In 2014, the Norphlet School District joined with the Smackover School District.
For the 2015–2016 school year, the old Norphlet High became a middle school for the whole district. Smackover High became the high school for all students in the district.
Public Library
Norphlet has its own public library. The Norphlet Public Library is a part of the Barton Library System. This main library system is located in El Dorado.
