North Chevy Chase is a small, official village in Montgomery County, Maryland, USA. It became a special tax district in 1924 and an official village in 1996. In 2020, about 682 people lived there, which was more than the 519 people in 2010. This village is part of a bigger area known as Chevy Chase, which includes other nearby towns and even a part of Washington, D.C.

History of North Chevy Chase
North Chevy Chase is built on land that was once a large colonial farm called Clean Drinking plantation. Even George Washington visited this farm, as noted in his diary.
Early Development
Homes started to be built here in the early 1900s. A man named William H. Walker planned out the community and began selling pieces of land. A streetcar line, called the Chevy Chase Lake & Kensington Railway, ran through the area. It was built in 1895 to connect the new town of Kensington to the streetcar line from Washington, D.C.
Becoming a Village
In 1924, the people living in North Chevy Chase decided to form a special tax district. This meant they could collect taxes to help manage their community.
The streetcar line stopped running in 1935. Later, Montgomery County bought the land where the tracks were. They paved it and opened it in 1940 as Kensington Parkway. This road became the main route through the area. North Chevy Chase officially became an incorporated village in 1996.

North Chevy Chase is located in the southern part of Montgomery County, Maryland. You can find it at these coordinates: 39°0′6″N 77°4′26″W / 39.00167°N 77.07389°W.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village is quite small, covering about 0.12 square miles (0.30 square kilometers) of land. There's no water area within the village.
North Chevy Chase is just south of the Capital Beltway (I-495), which is a major highway. It's also near Connecticut Avenue (MD 185). The main road running through the village is Kensington Parkway, which goes alongside Connecticut Avenue.

Transportation
North Chevy Chase does not have any major state highways directly inside its borders. However, the most important road that serves the village is Kensington Parkway.
Just outside the village, you can find Maryland Route 185 (which is also called Connecticut Avenue). This road connects to Interstate 495, also known as the Capital Beltway. This makes it easy for people in North Chevy Chase to travel to many other parts of the region by car.
