North Creek is a small waterway in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It flows into Lake Ontario. Most of this creek is now hidden underground.
The creek's mouth, where it meets Lake Ontario, is located in Colonel Samuel Smith Park. This park used to be the grounds of the Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital.
Where North Creek Starts and Ends
North Creek begins near the intersection of the Queen Elizabeth Way and Browns Line. This area is called its "headwaters." From there, it flows south towards Lake Ontario.
Its original mouth was at Kipling Avenue. This is where the creek used to empty into the lake.
The Creek's Transformation
By the year 1960, almost all of North Creek had been buried. This means it was covered over and now flows through underground pipes.
However, a small part of the creek still flows above ground. The mouth of the creek also changed direction. Instead of flowing directly south into Lake Ontario, it now flows towards the east before reaching the lake.
