Location and Landscape
North Spearfish is found in the northern part of Lawrence County. It's on the northwest side of the city of Spearfish. You can find it using these coordinates: 44°30′29″N 103°53′7″W / 44.50806°N 103.88528°W.
Getting Around North Spearfish
A major highway, Interstate 90, runs along the northern edge of North Spearfish. You can get onto this highway from Exit 8 (McGuigan Road).
- If you drive southeast on Interstate 90, you'll reach Rapid City in about 50 miles.
- If you head west, you'll get to Gillette, Wyoming in about 90 miles.
U.S. Route 85 also starts near North Spearfish. It goes north for about 10 miles to Belle Fourche.

North Spearfish covers a total area of about 4.28 square miles (11.10 square kilometers). All of this area is land; there are no large bodies of water within the community.
Water from North Spearfish flows north through Higgins Gulch into Spearfish Creek. Spearfish Creek then joins the Redwater River, which eventually flows into the Belle Fourche River. The Belle Fourche River then connects to the mighty Missouri River.
