Why is it called North Star?
The village got its name because of where it was located. It sat right on the edge of a very large swampy area called the Great Black Swamp. North Star was the northernmost point in Darke County that was not covered by wetlands or swamp. This made it a "north star" or guiding point for people traveling in the area.
