The Jubilee Auditorium was built in 1957. It was part of a big celebration for Alberta's 50th birthday! The building sits on a large piece of land next to the University of Alberta. The Government of Alberta owns and runs this amazing place.

This auditorium is home to some famous groups. You can see performances by the Edmonton Opera, the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers, and the Alberta Ballet.

Over the years, the Jubilee has hosted all sorts of shows. These include:

  • Broadway musicals
  • Stand-up comedy acts
  • Plays and theatre productions
  • Concerts by famous musicians
  • Orchestra performances
  • Cultural festivals
  • Awards ceremonies

In 2005, the auditorium got a major upgrade. This was part of Alberta's 100th birthday celebration. The renovations made the building even better for visitors and performers.

What's Inside the Jubilee?

The main theatre is very large. It can hold 2,538 people at once! If the orchestra pit is being used, it can still seat 2,416 people. Imagine all those people watching a show together!

Besides the main theatre, the Jubilee has other useful spaces. There's a banquet room for big dinners and parties. You can also find meeting rooms and a rehearsal hall. These areas are perfect for events, trade shows, or even just practicing for a performance.

Famous Moments at the Jubilee

The Jubilee Auditorium has seen many memorable events. On November 18, 1971, a British rock band called Procol Harum performed there. They played with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. This special show was recorded live. It later became a famous album called Procol Harum Live: In Concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.

In 2010, a theatre reviewer named Pollstar shared some exciting news. The Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium was the busiest theatre in all of Canada! It sold over 146,000 tickets in 2009. This was more than its sister building in Calgary and even more than a famous hall in Toronto. This shows how popular the Jubilee is for live entertainment!
