The Notikewin River is a river located in northern Alberta, Canada. It is a branch, or tributary, of the much larger Peace River. Near where the Notikewin River meets the Peace River, you can find the Notikewin Provincial Park.
The name of the river comes from the Cree word nôtinikewin, which means "battle". This name is also used for a nearby settlement called Notikewin.

Where the River Flows
The Notikewin River starts in an area called the Clear Hills in northern Alberta. This is north of a small town named Worsley. The river begins at a high point, about 1,055 meters (3,461 feet) above sea level.
River's Journey East
From its start, the river flows mostly towards the east and northeast. As it travels, it collects water from smaller streams. These include Square Creek and Alleman Creek. Further along, it also gets water from Rambling Creek, Lovet Creek, and Jim Creek.
Passing Through Towns
The Notikewin River flows through the town of Manning. Here, a major road called the Mackenzie Highway crosses over it. A railway line, the Railink Mackenzie Northern Railway, also crosses the river in Manning. The settlement of Notikewin is just north of Manning.
Journey to Peace River
The river continues its journey northeast through an area known as the Peace Country. Along the way, more streams join it, such as Stowe Creek, Soldar Creek, and the Hotchkiss River. It flows between two highways, Highway 741 and Highway 692. The Meikle River and Gravina Creek also add their waters to the Notikewin River. Finally, the river turns east and enters the Notikewin Provincial Park. It then flows into the Peace River at a lower elevation of about 275 meters (902 feet).
Smaller Rivers and Streams (Tributaries)
Many smaller rivers and streams flow into the Notikewin River, adding to its water. These are called tributaries.
