Nova Zembla Island, whose name means "New Land," is a small island in Canada. It is located in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut, which is a large territory in northern Canada. This island is special because no one lives there permanently.

Where is Nova Zembla Island?
This island sits in a very cold part of the world, near the top of the Earth. It is found in Baffin Bay, which is a large body of water. The island is right across the mouth of a place called Coutts Inlet. This inlet is a narrow arm of the sea that reaches inland.
Nova Zembla Island is also located off the northeastern coast of a much larger island called Baffin Island. Baffin Island is one of the biggest islands in the world. Another nearby island is Round Island, which is about 7.4 kilometers (4.6 miles) to the southeast.

Even though Nova Zembla Island is uninhabited today, people have visited it. One important visit happened in 1875. A group from Sweden came to the island. This trip was an expedition, which is a journey taken for a special purpose, like exploring.
The leader of this Swedish expedition was a famous explorer named Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld. He was known for exploring the Arctic regions. A businessman named Oscar Dickson helped pay for the trip. Their visit was part of the history of exploring the remote areas of the Canadian Arctic.
