Oak Grove, also known as Rolyat, is a small place in Bowie County, Texas, United States. It is an "unincorporated community." This means it is a group of homes and people that does not have its own local government like a city or town. In 2000, about 294 people lived there. Oak Grove is part of the larger Texarkana metropolitan area.
A Look Back: Oak Grove's Story
Oak Grove has an interesting past. It first got a post office in 1893. Back then, it was called Rolyat. But in 1906, its name changed to Oak Grove. This was because of all the oak trees growing nearby.
In 1914, about 200 people lived in Oak Grove. But by 1925, the number of residents dropped to just 80. The post office closed in the 1950s. By 1982, only 60 people lived there, and there were no businesses. In 2000, the population grew again to 294 residents.
Where is Oak Grove?
Oak Grove is located in northwestern Bowie County. You can find it on U.S. Route 82. It is also near the Missouri Pacific Railroad line.
It is about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) west of DeKalb. Oak Grove is also 21 miles (34 km) east of Clarksville. It is 17 miles (27 km) west of New Boston. And it is about 40 miles (64 km) west of Texarkana.
