Oakey Creek is a small, quiet place in the countryside of Queensland, Australia. It is known as a rural locality and is part of the Rockhampton Region. In 2021, only 12 people lived there, making it a very small community!
Geography
The Burnett Highway is a major road that passes through Oakey Creek. It enters the area from the north-east, coming from a place called Walmul. The highway then continues south, heading towards Wura.
History
A school named Konara State School used to be in Oakey Creek. It first opened its doors in 1919. However, the school did not stay open for long. It closed just eight years later, in 1927. The school was located north of the Konara railway station, between the Dawson Valley railway line and the Dee River. It was also just south of where the Dee River meets Fletcher Creek.
Population
In 2016, Oakey Creek had a very small population, with almost no people living there. By 2021, the number of residents had grown slightly to 12 people.
Special Historical Sites
Oakey Creek has one important historical site that is protected. This site contains the remains of the Adolphus William Copper Smelter. A smelter is a place where metal is taken out of rock using heat. This site is important because it tells us about the area's past.
Education
There are no schools located directly in Oakey Creek. Students living in the area usually travel to nearby towns for their education. The closest government primary and secondary schools are both in Mount Morgan. These schools are Mount Morgan State School and Mount Morgan State High School.
