Oakland is a small city in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, United States. It is located along the West Nishnabotna River. In 2020, about 1,524 people lived there.

Oakland used to be called Big Grove. Today, it is home to the Nishna Heritage Museum and several old, interesting buildings.

History of Oakland

Oakland started in 1880. This was when the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad built its tracks through the area. The railroad helped the town grow.
