Oakwood is a city located in Hall County, Georgia, in the United States. It is part of the larger Gainesville metropolitan area. In 2020, about 4,822 people lived here. Oakwood is special because it is home to the University of North Georgia Gainesville Campus. It also hosts Wayne Farms, a large company.

History of Oakwood
Oakwood became an official city in 1903. This means the state government, called the Georgia General Assembly, gave it the power to govern itself. Before it was called Oakwood, the area was known as O'Dell's Crossing. The name "Oakwood" was given to the area in 1896.
Geography and Location
Oakwood is in the southwestern part of Hall County. It shares borders with Gainesville, which is the main city of Hall County, to its northeast. To its southwest, it borders the city of Flowery Branch.
A major highway, Interstate 985, runs through the southeastern part of Oakwood. You can get on or off the highway at Exits 16 and 17. If you travel southwest on I-985, you can reach downtown Atlanta in about 48 miles (77 km).
The United States Census Bureau says that the city covers a total area of about 5.87 square miles (15.21 km²). Most of this area is land, with only a very small part, about 0.01 square miles (0.02 km²), being water.
